Beech Class

Beech Class

Welcome to Beech Class!

Week Beginning 13th March

Another busy week is ahead of us.

So this week we will continue to plant our seeds and hope that they germinate. A huge thank you to those who were able to help with seeds and compost, we really appreciate it.

Also this week we will be looking at the story of the old favourite ' The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. We will have opportunities for role play to re-enact the story, lots of art opportunity too. We will obviously focus on the life cycle of the butterfly and the correct vocabulary. We are trying to use the words pupa and chrysalis as the term cocoon is really for a moth, although the book uses the term cocoon. We will also be using the word metamorphosis.

Maths

In maths we have a wonderful opportunity to look at symmetry because of the butterfly wings. So I shall be combining this with work on shape 2D and 3D.

Phonics

In phonics we are still focusing heavily on cvcc and vcc words. We have spent time learning about which letters are vowels and consonants.

In our class you will find:

Class Teacher: Miss. C. Cadman
Teaching Assistants:
Mrs. R. Cordell, Miss. H. Williams

Our PE days will be: Friday

Week Beginning 27th February

The children have started this half term off well ad are all ready very busy.

For the reception children I am placing lots of emphasis on reading. I will be trying to read with the children individually each day to improve their fluency and flow. Their phonic knowledge is good but we need to push this into the flow of their reading for instant recall. Along with this we will be doing more sentence writing.
So if the children can do any extra reading at home that would be great.

Maths
In Maths the reception will be consolidating their understanding of addition and working on rapid recall of number facts to 5, within 10 and bonds for 10. The children know many of these so it will be secured by written recording and the start of missing numbers for example 6+4=10 so 6+?10..also writing them in different forms such as 10=6+4.

PE

PE will continue to be on Thursdays it may vary as to whether it is morning or afternoon depending on Nursery numbers as I would like these children to join in to. If all children could wear appropriate PE clothing on Thursday that would be great. If your child wears jewellery e.g. earrings or bracelets these need to be removed for safety. I strongly recommend that no jewellery should be worn on any day.

Learning focus.
We are looking at Growing and Changing as or theme for learning.
Last week we started to look at change, focusing on how and why the seasons change. We spoke about the orbit of the Earth around the sun and how this plus how the Earth sits on its axis creates seasonal change.

We will finish this, this week and the children's beautiful season tree in the style of pointillism in art and Georges Seurat.
As we are looking at growing we will be growing seeds. If anyone has any seeds, plants, pots or compost they no longer require I would be most grateful, budgets are very tight so any donations would be most appreciated.

Thank you again for your support, I really do appreciate it.
